The Enemy Between My Legs

Child sexual abuse is the most common form of abuse ever! Yet, it's the least reported and least discussed. Startling statistics show that as many as 1 in 3 females and 1 in 5 males are sexually abused as children and that 90% of abuse cases occur at the hands of a family member, close family friend, or trusted leader.

Studies also reveal that the effects of sexual abuse extend far beyond the years in which it actually takes place. Drug and alcohol abuse, criminal behavior, low self-esteem, sexual promiscuity, excessive spending, problems forming and maintaining relationships, weight and health issues, and teenage pregnancy are just some of the results of sexual abuse. What really happens once the victim transitions into teenage and adulthood?

The Enemy Between My Legs shares the story of author Stephanie L. Jones, who was sexually abused for over seven years, beginning at age five. The pages that follow the attention grabbing cover are as bold as its catchy title. Jones puts it all out there. She shares how she was left to fend for herself in a household that was oblivious to what was going on and how it affected every area of her life, particularly how she felt about herself and her decisions about sex and relationships.

The Enemy Between My Legs illustrates the lasting effects of child sexual abuse and how it molds and shapes the thought process of its victims. In the first half of the book Jones shares her painful, yet interesting and inspiring story. However, the book doesn't stop there! The other half educates us on how to protect the ones we love, as well as gives practical advice on how abuse victims can move beyond the pain of their past and find healing for their broken hearts. After reading this book, parents will be much more cautious about who they allow access to their children. Sexual abuse victims will finally have answers to certain behaviors they've exuded over the years. And it will become evident that child sexual abuse is a subject that we can no longer ignore.
